Specialized Department

Anesthesia

Department Overview

The Department of Anesthesia was established in response to Ethiopia’s growing demand for qualified and competent anesthesia professionals. The College launched the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Anesthesia programme in 2014 G.C. for post-basic (upgrading) students and in 2021 G.C. for generic (direct-entry) students. Since its establishment, the Department has successfully graduated seven consecutive post-basic cohorts, achieving an impressive 70–100% national examination pass rate. The first group of generic students is expected to graduate in 2026, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the national health workforce. The Department is committed to producing skilled, compassionate, and ethically grounded anesthesia practitioners capable of delivering safe and effective perioperative, critical care, and pain management services in line with national priorities and international standards.
