Consistent, planned and well-integrated community-based education (CBE) is becoming top urgent issue in higher teaching-learning institutions while addressing social, economic, ecological and environmental problems of communities in global and regional contexts.

Community Based Education is a means of achieving educational relevance to community needs and, consequently, of implementing a community oriented educational program by actively engaging students, instructors, members of the community and other sectors.

In line with this, Menelik II Medical and Health Science College establishes and organizes the directorate to facilitate and guide Community Based Education within the college.

• Identify and schedule the students who undergo clinical practicum and internship in collaboration with department heads
• Identify and create the necessary relationship with selected health institutions for clinical practice
• In collaboration with departments develop and distribute students’ assessment criteria for trainers and health care organizations to assess trainees
• Prepares and distributes correspondence letters to selected health institutions
• Provides supervision and evaluation of practical training performance.
• Collect the evaluation form, consolidate the results of the students and forward it to the respected department
• Notifies payments related to internships and apprenticeships and monitors their implementation.

• Developing the annual program plan
• Gather and prepare the resources needed for the program, including checklists; guidelines; manuals; student evaluation forms
• Coordinate and lead the program members
• Facilitate the teaching and learning process by creating inter-program relations with other programs within the college.
• Preparing the schedule and timetable
• Identifying/selecting places and institutions where the program will be implemented
• Preparing and distributing letters needed for permission to various institutions
• Grouping students based on the program
• Assigning supervisors for each group
• Introducing the students to the assigned institution
• Monitoring the program activities
• Collect and compile students' TTP and CBTP results and submit them to the Registrar

• Gathering resources needed for exams, including checklists; guidelines; manuals and evaluation forms
• Prepares the annual clinical skills exam schedule in collaboration with the academic departments.
• Standardizes clinical skills tests in collaboration with departments
• Prepares an exam bank for clinical skills tests in collaboration with departments
• Assigns examiners in collaboration with departments
• Monitors that the clinical skills tests are administered according to the schedule.
