Department Overview
The Department of Biomedical Science is one of the core academic units under the School of Allied Health Science. Functions and Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality theoretical and practical instruction to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Develop, review, and maintain competency-based curricula in line with accreditation standards and professional guidelines.
- Promote research, innovation, and scholarly publication in reputable academic platforms.
- Ensure ethical, safe, and quality laboratory practices in teaching and research activities.
- Provide supervision, mentorship, and academic advising to students.
- Contribute to community health through laboratory diagnostics, disease surveillance, and health education initiatives.
- Strengthen partnerships with hospitals, research institutions, and public health organisations.
- Maintain proper management, utilization, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities.
- Uphold institutional policies, academic quality standards, and professional ethics.
- Prepare departmental plans, reports, and performance evaluations, and ensure accountability to the School leadership.
Major Activities
- Conduct regular lectures, laboratory sessions, and practical training programmes.
- Prepare, administer, and evaluate examinations and continuous assessments.
- Initiate and manage departmental research projects and collaborative studies.
- Organize workshops, seminars, and academic conferences.
- Facilitate staff development, recruitment, promotion, and performance appraisal processes.
- Manage departmental budgets and oversee procurement of laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training for health professionals.
- Maintain active collaboration with hospitals, research centers, and public health agencies.
- Prepare and submit quarterly, biannual, and annual reports to the School of Allied Health Science.
- Plan future expansion, including postgraduate programmes and advanced laboratory technologies.
