Department Overview
Department of Human Nutrition is one of the leading academic units under the Menelik II Medical and Health Science College. The department established in 2010 E.C to address the growing need for qualified nutrition professionals in Addis Ababa. Currently, the department has about 150 students attending Master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition.

Departmental Roles
- Initiate revision of academic programs and recommend to school after endorsement by DCs.
- Initiate and facilitate research and community service proposals.
- Facilitate the recruitment and selection of academic staff with the rank of lecturer.
- Process and approve student academic status based on college requirements.
- Oversee student wellbeing and facilitate academic advice.

Teaching and Learning
- Designing and delivering undergraduate degree program in Human Nutrition and graduate programs in public health Nutrition.
- Aspiring to launch new programs in clinical nutrition, dietetics, and food science.
- Hosting nutrition workshops and forums.

Research and Publication
- Conducting research on: maternal and childhood malnutrition, diet-disease relationships, and micronutrient deficiencies.
- Focusing on Food Hygiene, Safety, School Nutrition, and Health.

Community and Outreach
- Providing nutrition education and counselling to enhance knowledge and dietary diversity for mothers.
- Awareness campaigns on infant feeding, first 1000-day approach, and farm-to-table approach.

- Teaming up with different departments regarding teaching-learning, research, and community service delivery.
