Dr. Dereje Derbew Damete (PhD) is an assistant professor of public health and chief academic director at Menelik II Medical and Health Science College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Appointed to the leadership role in December 2024, he has been entrusted with advancing curriculum innovation, strengthening academic governance, and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

With more than two decades of progressive academic and clinical experience, Dr. Dereje has built a distinguished career at the intersection of emergency medicine, critical care, and public health systems.

Dr. Dereje earned his PhD in Public Health from the University of South Africa (2019–2023), an MSc in Emergency Medicine & Critical Care from Addis Ababa University (2014), and a BSc in Clinical Nursing from Kea-Med University College (2008).
